Birthdays and friendships
A meaningful time-point in life is worth more if you have good people to share it with.
– Sylvia T-J –
October has been a month of celebration. I turned another year older and so did two of my dear friends, each of whom I’ve known for about ten years. We meet occasionally for a meal and natter, we’ve shared in each other’s joy at our weddings, celebrated the arrival of little ones, contemplated our careers – we have grown together.
Food has always been part of our friendships – through university days when we would have cheap pot luck dinners in large groups followed by some rather carefree alcohol consumption, to possibly more sedate home parties now with a little sensible drinking.
Both birthday celebrations were beautiful, both filled with love and friendship. JJ’s wife Sylvia went through the painstaking effort of organising a surprise luncheon for him – arranging the catering (I baked the birthday cake!) and invitations, and preparing their home for their guests. Rachel’s husband, Stephen, chauffeured her guests around, booked our dinner venue and kept their two young children entertained whilst we baked macaroons (not perfect but we loved them!) through the afternoon and went for a girly night out after.
Whilst I have no food recipe to share with you here, I hope you will agree with me that one of the key ingredients of a bountiful life is good friendships, of which I am truly blessed with.
To Sylvia, JJ, Rachel and Stephen – thank you for sharing such wonderful times with me. Much love.
