Saturday visits to Broadway Market
We love our occasional Saturday morning visits to Broadway Market, located near Bethnal Green. The crowd is a good mix of mostly local residents with little kids and stylish East Londoners (no, I don’t fall into either category!). It’s open from 10am – 5pm but it’s probably best to go before 12nn when it gets really crowded.
I try to go on an empty stomach because you can literally eat from the bottom of the market to the top and down again -we start with a banh-mi (Vietnamese baguette) from Banh Mi11, then perhaps indulge in a cupcake or two from Violets, pick up some fresh vegetables or fruits from the stall in the middle, ogle at the various cheeses and meats along the way before getting our coffees from Climpson and Sons (the shop, there is also a stall at the bottom of the market).
There is a whole lot of other food to eat from the stalls and little shops along the market so do visit, especially when the weather turns warmer – London always seems like a more forgiving place, sitting in the sun in the middle of the market, listening to the music from the ever-changing street performers, sipping on a strong coffee and watching the world go by…
